History of Lumbini
Lumbini, located in the Rupandehi District of Nepal, is renowned as the birthplace of Siddhartha Gautama, who later became known as Buddha. This sacred site, dating back to the 6th century BCE, holds immense significance for Buddhists around the world. According to tradition, Queen Maya Devi gave birth to Prince Siddhartha in Lumbini’s lush gardens, marking the start of a spiritual journey that would lead to the establishment of Buddhism. Today, Lumbini is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, attracting pilgrims and visitors who come to explore its ancient ruins, monasteries, and the revered Maya Devi Temple, which stands as a testament to the region’s rich historical and spiritual heritage.
Footprints of Lord Buddha
Buddha’s journey, marked by his spiritual footprints, began in Lumbini, where he was born as Prince Siddhartha. Renouncing his royal life in search of enlightenment, he traveled across the Indian subcontinent, spreading his teachings of peace, compassion, and the path to Nirvana. His journey took him to Bodh Gaya, where he attained enlightenment under the Bodhi tree, to Sarnath, where he delivered his first sermon, and finally to Kushinagar, where he passed into Parinirvana. Each of these places, now revered pilgrimage sites, symbolizes the key milestones in Buddha’s life and the profound impact of his teachings on millions worldwide.
